Lorraine Gaston: A Woman of Substance There is a woman of substance who lives in the heart of many. She is able to live in the present moment so completely that if you are lucky enough to spend time with her, you too are enveloped in the power of that precious present and surrounded by spontaneous fun. On February 23, 1928 The 7th child of Annie and Sully was born. This precious daughter became Lorraine Theresa O’Sullivan, and the loving sister to twelve siblings. Eileen, Tom, Mary, Billy, Joe, Jack, Nancy, Dottie and Patty grew up to tell many stories about her. Two little siblings gone too soon from her world, watched from a distance as her life would unfold. She was the first of her siblings to embark on the journey of motherhood. So young was she, too young really. She offered to her mother a light so bright the likes of which the world has yet to really know. Eileen Moore Quinn was, to her Nana, Annie Moore O’Sullivan a shining beacon of Hope. Something very profound happens to a woman when she is holding her firstborn grandchild. It is something! Something deeper than language. This powerful quantum vibrational lifeforce, of Life longing for itself, is now revealed! Eight more shining stars of Hope called Lorraine “Mom”. Linda, Danny, Marty, Steve, Nancy, Terry, Maura and Brian followed Eileen. From Lorraine’s siblings a galaxy of stars emerged. “Beloved aunt” was added to her identify, of which, “true friend” was clearly known, and where eventually “Nana” and “Great grandma” became crowning jewels. She is the wife of Ralph Gaston, a great man who loved her well. He told me once, “Every moment with her is a great memory for me”. Her identity is renowned. Lorraine has woven a tight weave of love and comfort in her hometown and beloved community. The hearts and minds and lives of those she impacts to this very day- increases daily! As her family grows around her, Lorraine welcomes each one with open arms and the attitude of “There is always room for one more!” What is it, which makes a mere woman A Woman of Substance? Is it Faith, Hope, Love, Endurance, Persistence, Optimism, Courage, Belief, Knowing, Having a Positive Outlook, and Being a shining example? Yes, all of these. But more than anything is it Grace. And that is what my mother has. She is a fine and rare lady. Even when under fire her Grace shines through. I have been a witness to this over the many years I’ve known her, and I am a better person for it. About my mother - this I know to be true I have seen her overcome a great fear of water – and learn to swim I have seen her quake at the thought of teaching And become a teacher and a great public speaker and lector I have seen her examine Old Patterns and Social Beliefs – Challenge them and then change them (such as learning to drive) I have seen her daily devotion to her spiritual life I have seen her daily attendance in Holy Communion I have seen her recognize her shortcomings and ask for help I have seen her be the Back Bone of a very successful business I have seen her dog tired and still get one more “thing” done I have seen her create a HOME filled with Sacred Holiday Memories I have seen her revere education and live as a scholar her whole life I have seen her rise above adversity and hold her head up high I have seen her re-examine her Faith and believe more strongly I have seen her forgive and release the past I have seen her start over and create more beauty I have seen her dream and reach her goals I have seen her undaunting spirit rise above and soar I have seen her meet every challenge enthusiastically I have seen her persist and be victorious I have seen her let go and release the unneccesary I have seen her surrender and be given great gifts I have seen her sing while hanging bed sheets in freezing winter I have seen her shine when in service to others I have seen her share her love of music and literature I have seen her master the Art of living and live it to the fullest Written for mom 2-21-2007 Bravo mom way to go!!!
