Losing my mind right now. Sassy is in critical condition in the AVS internal medicine ER unit. Still struggling from losing Casey less than 2 months ago and now Sassys life is hanging by a thread. She was fine Saturday. Sunday she refused food, was drinking excessively, and immediately vomiting what she just drank. Got her to my vet this morning and was shortly referred to the nearest Affiliated Veterinary Specialists after finding she was suffering from ketoacidosis among other things, which my vet couldnt handle. This came on so fast- less than 2 days from normal to almost dead. So far testing has turned up elevated white cell count, excessive BCL, critically low blood pressure, a urinary tract infection, pancreatitis, severe dehydration from the vomiting, aspiration pneumonia, inflamed liver, kidney, and intestinal linings. Shes a very sick little girl. The urinary tract infection and/or the pancreatitis is most likely what caused this house of cards to start falling apart so quickly. After she got out of radiology, I was allowed to visit her one last time for the day. As she lay comatose in her holding cage, I stroked her soft silky ears, told her how much I loved her, and then went to pieces. I got her beautiful fur all wet. I love her so much.
