Lost a friend this week--His name was Elmo Hodges, and unless you - TopicsExpress

Lost a friend this week--His name was Elmo Hodges, and unless you lived in East Memphis or Germantown, you would never have had a reason to meet him, and you will never see a news item mourning his passing. Elmo was a simple man, not long on formal education, but he was a great American. He had a family, a wife and he owned his own business. He was the backbone of Hodges Lawn Service, and he took care of my lawn and leaves and mulch, and made my lawn look nice, doing work I didnt like to do, because I would much rather be fishing. He never complained, always smiled, always grinned when I paid him and shook his hand. He always apologized for not getting to the job soon enough, and for what he charged. If youve ever heard Jimmy Buffetts Its My Job, by Mac McAnally, the line Its my job to be cleaning up this mess, described Elmo. He was a magician with lawn tools, and just plain hard work. He was a decent, honest hard-working man. I trusted him around my wife and my home, and he was my friend. We have lost a good man, and I will miss him. I will try to honor him by taking some of his virtues into my heart. I know he is with God.
