Lots of fun yesterday in West Bend WI at the Rebound party for Rotary exchange students. I heard stories of: - hissing cockroaches in the showers of Brazil; - of getting tear-gassed at a demonstration in Istanbul; - of being like naked "all the time" in Finland; - of people in the middle of nowhere in Russia in a city of 700,000, who appreciate what they have and "have all the values we lack in the United States"; - of getting flooded knee-high in Jakarta, something that happens every 5 years or so; - of the need to enlist a boy friend to keep away wannabe boyfriends; - doing all the things that 16 year olds and 18 year olds do, with the added twist that they did them with peers in a world in which they are students without borders.
