Lots of hype out there this week about a significant tornado - TopicsExpress

Lots of hype out there this week about a significant tornado outbreak across much of the south central U.S. this weekend. While western sections of South Texas have been deemed by the Storm Prediction Center to be under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday and (especially) Saturday night, the threat appears to be quite low. A large low pressure system making its way on shore in California this evening (satellite imagery of that here: is.gd/Pv05wY ) will travel across the Rockies and make its way into the Plains Saturday and Saturday night. This will try to combine with a surface dryline, that will develop in west Texas, to produce severe storms - especially Saturday evening. However, while it appears the atmosphere over South Texas will be potentially unstable, the dryline/upper low will have to overcome a warm, capping layer of air. While numerous storms cant totally be ruled out, odds are the cap will be strong and widespread enough to only allow isolated storms Saturday afternoon & evening. Having said that, any storms that do pop up could go severe rather rapidly. Go about your plans on Saturday, but pay attention to the skies and monitor the weather. Saturday should start out with low clouds, and maybe even some morning drizzle, and end up with a mix of Sun & clouds, with isolated storms - especially west of San Antonio. Quite breezy with south winds @ 10-20 mph & higher gusts. Sunday will start with low clouds and possibly some drizzle. Strong to severe storms could develop far to the east of San Antonio with the heating of the day. Otherwise, breezy & hot (by April standards) with lots of Sun for Sunday afternoon. Low/high Saturday: 70°/86° Low/high Sunday: 71°/94° #TXwx #SATwx
