ROTARY CLUB HAMBURGER SUPPER - SEPTEMBER 19 The Wills Point Rotary Club will host the annual tradition of the Homecoming Hamburger Supper Friday, Sept. 19. The fundraiser will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the commons area of the Wills Point High School. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased in advance from any club member. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. This fun community event is a great opportunity for fellowship with friends and neighbors prior to the homecoming game. After the supper, football fans can walk to the stadium to watch the Wills Point Tigers take on the Mineola Yellowjackets and watch the award-winning “Pride of Tigerland” WPHS Band perform at halftime. Money raised from the event will be used for planned community service projects. The projects include helping with the maintenance and repair of the playground at Lester Park. Club members and other volunteers are planning a work day to replace or repair damaged equipment so that children who come to play are safe and enjoy their time at the park. Another project includes funding grants for WPISD teachers so that they can increase the educational experiences of our students where there are shortfalls through traditional funding sources. The Rotary Club granted teachers of $3,500 last year. Grants were given to purchase reading programs at the intermediate school, teacher training at the junior high, and mathematics applications for middle school students, to name a few.
