Lou and i had an experience with a bredren named @mike shand, very touching, he read these words for us and i would share them. Thank you brother for your words, we move on with the work. I remember as a kid when I was first introduced to Bob Marley and the Wailers played on an LP record my mom had; the Rastaman Vibration LP to be specific. Its like I was deaf and hearing for the first time. Bob, Bunny, Peter...the I-threes...led the way for me to learn then about Burning Spear...many other artistes from Jamaica had influenced me but never out of the reggae genre. Domestically I just didnt connect spiritually with our music despite being surrounded by music growing up basically in Fonclaire Pan Yard off of Coffee Street, San Fernando. My teenage years brought about the dancehall era and though it made good for a party when the unmistakable voice of Eek-a-mouse was sounded over the speakers or any song from the immortal Till Shilo Buju Banton Album played is where the music resonated mostly with me. I think Ras Shorty I with Watch out my Children and his kids probably came the closest for me to feel a vibes. I was ecstatic when I heard Isaac Blackmans To the Ceiling because it somehow married the spirit of reggae and that of Trinbago jubilee. The Dieffenthaller brothers went on to do Lion which remain one of my all time favorites and this ranked against the Giants of industry mentioned before. But I was never satisfied...John Blood and George Philip were the closest thing that I could place my finger on that wasnt just pleasing to the ear but to the soul. Their Super Power track hits the spot. Geography alone keeps me from enjoying their music but also too my sporadic hiatuses off of social media. December 2012, Keita Demming hosted his second TedX at the Central Bank Auditorium and I was introduced to the Freetown Collective. I cant explain the emotion that came over me simply through their introduction and then subsequent performance of Jerusalem. I realized then, without even hearing another track that these guys finally gave me a home grown taste of music that seems to have a genre of its own. Its not reggae, calypso, rockers....its just music and in a Trinibago twang! Tara Koon How introduced me to Muhammad at the after party and Ive enjoyed watching them grown ever since. This short film attached was released sometime over the last 24 hours. I dont think it does the trick in showing you the majesty of their music but there is enough to make your pallet wet and want more. https://m.youtube/watch?feature=share&v=UUcSez1MGvk I hope to take in their show tonight and to embrace some positive vibes. Hope you enjoy....
