Louder Than Words – Sydney Dance Company Sydney Dance Company (SDC) will preview 2 world premier performances on Saturday 4 October and Tuesday 7 October, followed by the official opening night on Wednesday 8 October 2014. Louder Than Worlds, the first collaboration between European dancer/choreographer Andonis Foniadakis and SDC’s Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela, will deliver ‘Parenthesis’ and ‘Scattered Rhymes’ respectively. Commissioned by SDC to create the new work, Foniadakis is said to explore the relation of duality in an intimate relationship, creating an environment of sensuality, comfort and ease, whilst also exploring the feelings of disorder, discomfort and chaos that results when the balance is disrupted. The second piece choreographed by the familiar face of Rafael Bonachela, is inspired by poetry and music, taking its name from British composer Tarik O’Regan’s choral composition, ’Scattered Rhymes’. Toying with the ambiguity of unrequited, sensuous, divine love, these writings incorporated into O’Regan’s composition have influenced the final score of Louder Than Words. Bonachela’s ’Scattered Rhymes’ is said to bring together the very pure element of achingly beautiful poetry being sung a cappella, with more dark electronic interludes created by Nick Wales. Both pieces seemingly emotionally charged have been highly anticipated since the announcement of the production. Celebrating 45 years in operation SDC have been actively promoting the 2 world premiers, enticing supporters and followers with stunning photography and videography over the past couple of months.
