Louis did his best imitation of a cat today by catching a baby squirrel - and leaving it alive on the living room floor. Hes about 4 weeks old, eyes still closed and, actually, pretty darned cute. We are now trying to keep the little guy alive until we can find a rehabber close-by who will raise and release him. So right now hes upstairs in a box with a heating pad under it, with a belly full of 2 ccs of pedialite, to be fed and checked every two hours throughout the night - all per the online How Do I Raise A Baby Squirrel? Google/Wiki Wisdom of the Ages articles - and were trying to keep Louis and Sabine from investigating the occasional scratching sounds that are coming from behind the closed door of the music room. Anyone know an orphan squirrel rehabber in Overland Park? I guess according to the law we have 48 hours before were supposed to dump him outside to become part of the food chain.
