Louisiana Center for Afterschool Learning Director Job Description The Statewide Afterschool Networks now exist in 41 states across the country, with new states added every year since 2001. The networks are focused on improving education and out-of-school time opportunities for children and youth, particularly low-income children, and are geared toward achieving three primary goals: Goal 1: Create a sustainable structure of statewide, regional, and local partnerships, particularly school-community partnerships, focused on supporting policy development at all levels. Goal 2: Support the development and growth of statewide policies that will secure the resources that are needed to sustain new and existing school-based/school-linked afterschool programs. Goal 3: Support statewide systems to ensure programs are of high quality. The Director leads the Louisiana Center for Afterschool Learning (LACAL), an initiative of Educations Next Horizon. Working under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director is responsible for the growth, development, and day-to-day operations of LACAL. The ideal candidate has practical leadership and fundraising experience, entrepreneurial zeal, familiarity with Louisianas afterschool and/or education landscapes, and a deep commitment to youth and community development. This position is based in Baton Rouge and occasional travel throughout Louisiana is required. Responsibilities General Responsibilities • Effectively implement the overall vision and goals of LACAL • Through shared leadership and shared decision making, ensure the growth and development of LACAL • Exhibit prudent financial management and sound fiscal responsibility • Ensure that LACAL meets all of its obligations • Maintain and safeguard the assets, records, and documents of the society Administrative and Fiscal Management • Recruit, hire and supervise staff as needed • Comply with the personnel and financial policies and procedures of Educations Next Horizon • Prepare an annual operating budget for approval by the Educations Next Horizon Finance Committee and Board of Directors • Manage the annual operating budget • Manage grant agreements or contracts with funding agencies • Contract with third-party vendors as needed Strategic Planning and Development • Build a statewide leadership team (Advisory Board) to help champion the LACAL mission and provide needed policy and operational guidance • Plan and coordinate all Advisory Board meetings • Participate with the Advisory Board in developing LACAL policies, strategic plans, and accountability systems Public Policy Development and Advocacy • Represent LACAL and act as a liaison to private and public partners at the local, state and national levels • Introduce LACAL goals and policy initiatives to stakeholders and assist in the development of statewide policies related to extended learning, afterschool and summer learning opportunities in Louisiana • Coordinate legislative information and public policy efforts related to extended learning Project Development and Implementation • Responsible for the overall planning, management and completion of all LACAL projects • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with funders and subcontractors • Provide leadership to ensure that progress is within stated guidelines and is completed on time and within budget Communications • Build and strengthen relationships with partners through timely and effective communication • Develop and maintain the LACAL newsletter on a regular basis. • Publish brochures and other materials • Oversee the LACAL web site and ensure that content is regularly refreshed with information Minimum Required Qualifications Candidates should have demonstrated leadership skills, a passion for creating high quality learning experiences for children, and effective collaboration skills. Other qualifications include: • Minimum of Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in PreK-12 education, non-profit management, business management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree preferred. • Thorough understanding of, and demonstrated commitment to, positive youth development, and improving policies, strategies and services for out-of-school time programs and how to partner with school based and school linked extended learning initiatives • Entrepreneurial self-starter; capable of self-managing in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders • Knowledge of the region and well developed professional network • Proven fundraising experience • Experience with non-profit organizations, management, program operations, and boards • Ability to interact at all levels of an organization and with all constituents and stakeholders • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational, follow-up, logistics skills and attention to detail • Ability to travel regularly within the state • Demonstrated commitment to diversity Compensation and Benefits Compensation will be commensurate with experience and include excellent benefits, including paid health insurance, a 401K Plan, vacation, and extensive training.
