Louisiana Sports History November 19, 1967 – Billy Cannon catches three TD passes in Oakland’s win over Miami - Oakland tight end and former LSU All-American Billy Cannon caught three touchdowns as the Raiders maintained a one-half game lead in the American Football League’s Western Division with a 31-17 decision over the Miami Dolphins. Oakland quarterback Daryle Lamonica connected with Cannon for TD passes of eight, 46 and nine yards. Another former LSU player, Doug Moreau, scored the Dolphins first touchdown on a five-yard pass from Bob Griese. Oakland would capture the Western Division title with a 13-1 record, defeat the Houston Oilers 40-7 in the AFL championship game and lose to the Green Bay Packers 33-14 in Super Bowl II. Cannon would finish the 1967 regular season with 32 receptions for 629 yards and 10 touchdowns, and would be named to the all-AFL team. During his 11 seasons as a professional, Cannon rushed for 602 times for 2,455 yards (4.1 avg.), caught 236 passes for 3,656 yards (15.5 avg.) and score a total of 65 touchdowns. He played for Houston Oilers from 1960-1963, Oakland Raiders from 1964-1969 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1970. Doug Moreau played four seasons for Miami, 1966 to 1969, catching 73 passes for 926 yards and six touchdowns. Cannon was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 1976 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
