Loup Garou (2013 Revisited) from Bayou Teche Brewery in Arnaudville, Louisiana From the Bayou Teche website: Loup Garou is the Cajun French phase for a werewolf and is also Bayou Teche Brewing’s limited edition, Belgian inspired Imperial Stout. Crafted with an insane amount of chocolate roasted Belgian malts, brown sugars and French hops, our stout is then aged on oak for several months. Loup Garou is just around 8% ABV and will be released in 22 oz. Belgian-style bottles and a very limited number of kegs. Loup Garou -- Style: Stout -- ABV= 8 -- IBU= 50 -- Malt: Pale, Chocolate, Caramel, Rye -- Aged on Oak with Licorice root This beer was originally released in December 2013 with limited distribution in South Louisiana. I bought one bottle back then, and tasted and reviewed it then, and I loved it. I recently (October 2014) found a bottle at Breaux Mart on Severn in Metairie, Louisiana, in their refrigerated section, so I grabbed. It has aged well! Here are notes from my review back in January 2014. This pours pitch black and opaque. I think I could stain crown molding with this beer. Just WOW. Right up front and after only a couple of sips, I can honestly say that Bayou Teche has a real winner right here. This is most excellent! This is a 22 oz. bomber bottle at 8% ABV. This is the best beer that Bayou Teche has brewed by far! There is not a lot of foam head, and there is minimal lacing. But this beer has a ton of taste. Coffee and chocolate rule the aroma. On the palate, coffee, espresso, and dark bittersweet chocolate rule and provide an extremely wonderful stout beer experience! Rich and decadent. As it warms, even more richness and decadence evolves. Congratulations to Bayou Teche for brewing one of the best stouts I have ever tasted. This is focused and complex at the same time. By that I mean that you should not expect a plethora of components, but you will experience a first class taste experience with rich, deep stout flavors! I absolutely LOVE this beer! Find it, buy it, and drink it! I do not know that this will improve with aging, but I suspect that it might! So maybe you should buy 2 bottles, which is what I now wish that I had done! Fast forward to now - this beer is as good as, if not better than, what I remember and wrote in January of this year! What a treat!
