Lou’s Story: There are many reasons why I would like everyone to hear about Lou, one being that I love Lou and like talking about him incessantly and two that I really believe without Raw Essentials Lou dog wouldnt be the dog he is today. We adopted Lou form Waitakere Animal Control (the pound). Waitakere Animal Control do an incredible job with trying to advertise and re-home the animals they have in their shelter, however the sad truth is that most dogs in the pound are held for seven days, and after that they head to the happy hunting ground. We werent looking for a dog when we stumbled upon Lou. Its a long story but somehow we ended up at the pound looking at an emaciated puppy that could barely sit down. Every rib on his little body was showing. We were told Lou (originally Blue as he had been found with blue string tied around his neck) was 8 weeks old and had 2 days left before his time was up, we couldnt say “no”... so we said “yes”. The next step was to see if Lou passed a temperament test and see if he had any underlying health issues, if he passed on both counts we could take him home. A few days later I received a call to say Lou had passed, however he was not actually 8 weeks old, based on his dental results Lou was actually 6 months old. He was so malnourished that his growth and size was severely stunted. Hes a Bull Terrier cross and at 6 months old only weighed in at just on 6kgs, the vet was shocked and so were we. Adopting Lou meant that we had to accept and understand the implications of adopting a dog that had started the way he had. We were told Lou wouldnt get much bigger and just to hope for the best. We started Lou on biscuits thinking, as many do, that they would be best. He had a runny tummy and wasnt gaining weight nearly as fast as we hoped. Luckily my sister stepped in and recommended Raw Essentials... Lou dog seemed to improve over night. He didnt need a slow introduction, we went onto lamb mix at first, two blocks a day. There was no upset tummy, no throwing up... just pure delight on Lou dog’s face. Im happy to report that Lou dog (now 1 year old) weighs in at 19kg of pure shiny coat and muscle. I truly believe that without the balance and pure goodness of Raw Essentials Lou wouldnt have been able to bounce back the way he did. My only complaint would be that since we started feeding Lou Raw Essentials he seems to be a little too well, waking every morning extra early to whimper by his dog bowl, longingly dribbling for his Green Tripe and Lamb....
