Love ‘From up on Poppy Hill’ Ashley Jo Will A couple years ago I watched and wrote about the directorial debut of Goro Miyazaki, the son of Hayao Miyazaki. His second film “From up on Poppy Hill” depicts the lives of two young people, released on video Sept. 3, 2013. “From up on Poppy Hill” is based on the Japanese manga of the same name. Unlike several other Miyazaki films, this tale contains no magic or fantastical elements. The only thing fantastical, but not unrealistic, in this film is when the past is revealed concerning the two protagonists, Umi and Shun.
