Love/ Relationships/ Marriage September 6- It’s détente! Sometimes in a marriage we can get so wound up over something that really is insignificant. It’s at times like these that you must choose your words very carefully. One word spoken in anger or resentment can send the other person off the edge. Our words have great power to either wound or to heal. As is said in Proverbs 18:27- Life and Death are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. It’s at these times that you need to make a deliberate decision to choose life and speak life words. The fewer the better because as scripture also says, in a multitude of words there is usually transgression (my paraphrase). I know its tempting to respond in anger with a bitter word. But you can stop the cycle by speaking life words and choosing life. It really is like the French word for political relations; détente. Come Holy Spirit! We have been on a journey in our marriage with the Holy Spirit. We have seen the unique and critical role He plays in our staying unified as husband and wife.
