Love for any educators (or anyone) to weigh in on this idea to shake up education... currently in K-12 most schools group based on grade which is a function of age. We all know children develop physically, mentally and emotionally at varied paces. So a 3rd grader who reads at a 5th grade level, does math at a 2nd grade level and is big for his age will be bored in English, embarrassed in math and win at flag football. Why not group students based not on age but ability or comprehension? Have x levels of each subject and place students based on their abilities and paces instead of having x "grades" and forcing them to all proceed at the same inefficient pace...thoughts? This would allow our example student to improve his math, advance in reading and be able to compete with older bigger athletes...am I missing some potential negative outcomes?
