Love is .... Going to see the latest batch of chickens that have hatched, 5 out of 15? so I go to check that no baby chicks were stranded in the coop. In the nesting box was a half opened egg with the membrane intact but shell broken and missing in places but half still there. Picked the egg up and the chick was still moving and I could hear it cheeping yet it appeared it the end with legs and bum that was all broken. Had a closer look and peeled off some of the broken pieces and the other half of the egg came clean off.... and the other half of the egg shell was underneath. Obviously when one of the other chicks hatched it kicked its half shell and it was a perfect fit over this chicks egg. Poor thing was trying to hatch through 2 shells !!! So, here is a pic or 2 or said chick who is quite vocal and squirming around. I am trying to keep it warm but I do not have a heat lamp. Oh and btw the mother hen completely disowned it. What I am hoping is to get it to the stage where the umbilical cord (?) has detached, chick has fluffed up and I can slip it under the other mother hen we have. thoughts?
