Love is Not Rude Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not - TopicsExpress

Love is Not Rude Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5(NIV) I would love to start this off and say I have never been rude or unloving. I would love to tell you when someone has acted ugly and rude to me I haven’t replied in kind. I would love to tell you that because not doing these things is the loving thing to do. I have been successful on many occasions to reply kindly when treated rudely but I have failed on occasion. Have you ever had a rude waitress, cashier, co-worker, family member, acquaintance and even a friend? In 1 Peter 3:9 (NIV) he tells us; “Do not repay evil with evil, or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” Paul says in his letter to the Romans 12:17 (NIV); “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” This is a mature way to live. This is a spiritual discipline we need to work on. I know I do. Growing spiritually and growing in God’s love tells me that getting even and seeking my revenge is not what a Christ follower looks like. A Christ follower seeks to bring love, joy and peace wherever we go. Is that what we look like? Will folks listen to the Good News when we don’t look like we have any? This leads right into love not being self seeking. Usually when someone is rude to me or even just disagrees I have wanted to get even. Why, don’t they know who I am, don’t’ they know that I am right? Have you ever felt like a legend in you own mind? Okay maybe I have at times? That is neither humble nor does it show the humility I am called to. Self seeking says hey look at me I am the important one here. It is about me, when people say something I want to make sure I can top what they say. This is neither mature nor appreciated. It shows no signs of love. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:31; ‘Therefore, as it is written;’ “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” It is not about me. Today this is what I will work on, to neither to be rude nor self-seeking. Today I will show my love in this way. Today I will continue in growing on my spiritual disciplines and spiritual maturation.
