Love this. #9 is so important--Ive found that parents dont always know how to talk to kids about the difference between good secrets and bad secrets and distinguishing between a secret and a happy surprise like a birthday present helps them and kids to understand. Abusers are very clever and manipulative and kids need to be armed with knowledge and when parents talk to their kids about difficult topics it lets kids know they can go to their parents with difficult things too. We talk incessantly to kids about safety in the street--watching for traffic, how to cross a street, etc and its so important to talk about body safety often, too. Hoping that it wont happen/doesnt happen will not prevent it and neither will it teach a child what to do if the unthinkable does happen. --OK rant over....
