Love this, “I can’t imagine Social Security would ever be abolished altogether,” says Sylvia Allegretto, an economist at the Institute for Research on Labor & Employment at the University of California, Berkeley. “If it were, there would be vast poverty among older Americans. Social Security is one of the most effective, efficient programs we have.” (AF : Reach Magazine – July/August 2013) Effective? Efficient? Yeah, that’s someone from Berkeley all right. And I know of no one saying that Social Security should be abolished, so where did that come from? What’s the government doing to try and fix the problem of running out of money around 2033? How about more taxes! Yeah, yahoo, ….ok, well I would slam this one more but in some way it makes sense “IF” it would work the way it’s supposed to – but of course that won’t happen. As it stands now 6.2% of the first $113,700 of gross income is collected for social security. If the cap was removed and that money was going to go back to the individual that contributed, I wouldn’t have a problem. However, what’s more likely is that the money will go to someone else – once again the government taking money I worked for to hand it to someone who didn’t. It gets better. The government is also looking at calculating the inflation rate using a system called Chained Consumer Price Index or (C-CPI). What this does is in effect reduce the amount of social security increases compared to the cost of living. This means the increase in social security given for cost of in the future will be less than it is today. Wonderful. So increase the common man’s taxes reduce his future return as a cause of inflation and continue to give social security to those who do not deserve it. Makes perfect government sense to me. Social Security is for those who earned it, for those who are unable to take care of themselves, but certainly not for those who are neither of the above. Too many cheats rip off those who earned and deserve it. In just disability payments alone there’s an estimated $11 billion (with a “B”) going out each year and more since 2008. The problem is the cheats taking the money and the government figuring to fix it they’ll just tax more or in the future give out less. How stupid is that!
