Love understands two things: that we rely on others for all of our well being, and that caring for others brings us enormous benefit. Everything we have–including money, food, education, entertainment, and even spiritual teachings–comes from the kindness of others. Since we rely on others for everything, it is only logical to consider their happiness and freedom from suffering to be as important as our own. If we do so our relationships with others will be harmonious and stable, whereas if we use others solely for our own benefit we will encounter many problems. To improve our mind of love, we can concentrate on how much benefit we receive from others throughout our daily life and how much the mind of love benefits us.
