Lovecraft Story of the Week...The White Ship. In this 1919 story a lighthouse keeper by the name of Basil Elton dreams of a mystical white ship which appears during a full moon piloted by a mysterious robed, white haired man. Walking across the water on a bridge of moonbeams Elton boards the small ship and he and the mysterious pilot sail on to explore a mystical sea of fantastic islands...that could only be found in the Dreamlands. Islands & cities such as Zar, and Thalarion, City of a Thousand Wonders., followed by Xura, the Land of Pleasures Unattained, and then Sona-Nyl, the Land of Fancy, where Elton learns of Cathuria, the Land of Hope.,,perhaps the most mysterious of the lands. Reluctantly the robed ships pilot agrees to take him there. All during the voyage the ship is being seemingly guided by a strange azure celestial bird which they follow westward to Cathuria. After a perilous journey to where the crew believes Cathuria to be the ships suddenly finds itself on the edge of the world and tumbles to its gloomy doom. Elton awakens to find himself on the rocks bordering his lighthouse, only moments after he seemingly set voyage on the white ship - and in that waking moment he witnesses a terrible shipwreck caused by the light having gone out for the first time. Nothing remains of this wreck the next morning but the corpse of a bird similar to the one in his dream-voyage, and a single brilliant white wooden spar. Elton does not see the white ship ever again.
