Lovecrafts The Dunwich Horror is split into ten sections. Neither nine nor eleven but ten sections. And in the ninth of the ten sections, Lovecraft openly identifies the horror of Dunwich Horror as Aklo Sabaoth. Now, Sabaoth is positively identified in Romans and James. So it would appear that Lovecraft is downright blasphemous. Perhaps so. Or, more in line with his characterization of the horror as junior issue of an albino mortal woman and the celestial conglomeration of spheres Yog-Sothoth is that of gnosis, whose demiurge is no less horrifying than Lovecrafts monster. Indeed, Lovecrafts horror lumbers about trampling cabins and barns and feeding largely on cattle, albeit murderous later on. But the horror of gnosis is the Creator of all things. Do the math. Today I learned the Aklo for the Sabaoth, it ran [Miskatonic Universitys Dr. Armitage is reading the journal of Wilbur Whateley, who is something of a John the Baptist in this parody, elder brother and guardian to the horror], ...they from the air told me at Sabbat [it appears here Lovecraft is also letting us know that Sabaoth is not some liberal or deliberate misspelling of Sabbath] that it will be years before I can clear off the earth, and I guess grandfather will be dead then, so I shall have to learn all the angles of the planes and all the formulas between the Yr and the Nhhhngr. That upstairs [Wilbur is referring to the Demiurge, which, though deformed and hostile is host and judge of infinite and eternities and supplied with his dizzying retinue of angles with multiple realms under his jurisdiction] looks it will have the right cast. I can see it a little when I make the Voorish sign or blow the powder of Ibn Ghazi at it, and it is near like them at May-Eve on the Hill [here, Lovecraft refers to the Elder Gods, who in this story but not necessarily across all of Lovecrafts other material, seem to inhabit a position like the pleroma of Gnosis]...He that came with the Aklo Sabaoth said I may be transfigured, there being much of outside to work on.
