Loving listening again to the old tracks of McKenna and Meehan playing together. Reminds me that the musicians that really impress me are those who tuck into the music to make it shimmer... When thats done thoroughly then its not a question of the musician, or the performance, and something happens in that space. Thats all a bit waffly, but there is an audible and qualitative difference that Im trying to get at. Im generally not at all impressed by anyone who would try to impress me or an audience. Its not really at you or me. If I were judge of the All-Ireland flute competition, everyone would go home with a Mars Bar and strict instructions to get over themselves.
