Low Friar Street 1885. Stretching from Newgate Street to Fenkle - TopicsExpress

Low Friar Street 1885. Stretching from Newgate Street to Fenkle Street, Low Friar Street is a reminder that the Dominican Black Friars once occupied land in this area. Their monastery was founded in the 13th century but suffered in the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539 by King Henry VIII. This street was once known as Shod Friar Lane after the Dominican friars who wore shoes, unlike the barefoot Greyfriars who occupied land between High Friars Lane and Sheakespeare Street.
