Lt. Col (Ret.) USAF Thomas “Howard” Gough, 87, of East Bend, passed away on September 28, 2013 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born September 3, 1926 to his loving parents William Bevil and Lily Maude Gough in Enon, NC. He was a beloved son, father, and grandfather. His generous spirit, delightful sense of humor, and tender love he offered his family and friends will be dearly missed. He spoke often of his childhood and the amount of love and caring his parents provided him and his siblings and of the warm sense of community he grew up within. He joined the U.S. Air Force in August 1953 and served an honorable 23 years. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with five oak leaf clusters for heroism, courage and selfless devotion to duty and his fellow military members while participating in aereal flight as an F-4D combat aircraft commander in Southeast Asia in 1968. He is preceded in death by his daughter Debra (Doug) Pierce, his parents, sister Virginia Roebuck, and brothers Billie Hugh and Floyd Gough. He is survived by his daughters Sandra (William) Slater, Susan (Mark) Hicks, his son Thomas H. Gough, Jr., and a sister Peggy Kinlaw. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Tracey Tilley Gough, eleven adoring grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2:30 pm at Enon Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Elmore officiating. The family will receive friends a half hour before service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals-On-Wheels of Yadkin County, c/o Yadkin County Senior Center. Huff Funeral Home of East Bend is respectfully serving the Gough family.
