Lt. Col. Thomas Knowlton (Knowltons Rangers) served heroically throughout the campaign being promoted to Lieutenant in 1760. In 1762 he participated in the Battle of Havana, Cuba and was lucky enough to survive and return to Ashford. (Of Israel Putnams Company of 107 men, only 20 returned home, due mostly to tropical diseases). On April 5, 1759 Knowlton married Anna Keyes of Ashford and bought a farm on the present site of the Norcross Webster Boy Scout Reservation. Knowlton and his wife raised a family of nine children, Frederick his sixteen-year-old son would accompany his father to fight in the American Revolution. Knowlton at the age of 33 was appointed as one of the Selectmen of the town. (See Rogers Ranger; Joseph Parker history; Texas Ranges and Cynthia Ann Parker, wife of Iron Jacket; son Quanah Parker, was the last Comanche Chief. Quanah Parker was the largest cattleman in Oklahoma. He was friends Theodore Roosevelt, who ran against Alton Brooks Parker, probably from the Adam~Quincy bloodline. There has never been a biography done on Alton Brooks Parker. All I know he was a knew of Rev. Theodore Parker, grandson of Capt. John Parker, commander of the Minutemen at Lexington, where the shots were heard around the world. Alton was the son of railroad man, James Brooks Parker. Theodore Roosevelt spoke very high of Gatling-gun Parker. (Parker and his machine guns took out all but 50 Spanish soldiers at San Juan Hill. His expedition departed from Tampa Bay, Florida, during the Spanish American War. It started when the USS Maine was blown up in Cuba. In the Key West Cemetery there is a Monument to the Maine. In this area are two unknown Parker family gravestones.
