Lucas Kim Wins Mandarin Tour 2 Day Event at Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club August 16, 2014 (Bellville, ON) – by Terry Griffiths Twenty year old Lucas Kim from Toronto, Ontario won his second Mandarin Tour tournament of the season by shooting a six under par 65 on the final day at the Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club to win by one stroke over Matt McMahon. McMahon, held a two stroke lead going into the final day at 5 under par. Kim, who sat at 3 under par, picked up 3 strokes on the back nine on the final day to win the tournament and a cheque for $4,300 of the $21,500 total purse. “I took the lead on 17”, said a soft spoken Kim. “I dropped a 15 footer from the right fringe of the green for a birdie”. Kim, who won a direct spot 3 weeks earlier into the $675,000 Web Price Cutter Charity Classic tournament in Springfield, Missouri, and made the ‘cut’, earned a pay cheque of $1,700 at the Classic. Kim also won the Mandarin Tour’s last 2 day event at the Mandarin Tour’s Nesbitt Burns Open Presented by Steve Roud held at Victoria Park East Course on July 16-17. At Vic Park Kim shot a new Victoria Park East Golf Club record 12 under par 59 on Day 2 of the event. Kim was elated with his overall play and second win on the Tour. “Today I kept the ball in play and putted exceptionally well. I had six birdies, no bogeys and only one bad tee shot”. Kim, who only turned pro eleven months ago, plays out of the ClubLink course in Woodbridge. Kim has placed in the top ten in all of the Mandarin Tour’s two day events this season with two, tenth place finishes, one seventh, one third place finish, and his wins at the Mandarin Tour’s Nesbitt Burns Open and current Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club. Kim also was delighted to learn that he earned another sponsor exemption for a Mandarin Tour member into this week’s PGA TOUR Canada Great Waterway Classic. Matt McMohan from Brockville, ON came in second shooting two great rounds of 66 and 68 and earned $2,380. McMohan has played steady golf all season on the Mandarin Tour, and has placed in the top ten in four of the Mandarin Tour’s two day events this season. Jon Mills had the low, single day score of the tournament shooting a -7 on Day 2 to move up the leader, taking sole possession of third place and a cheque for $1,940. Mills had rounds of 71 – 64 for a two day total of 135. Greg Doherty and Scott Stiles tied for fourth place at 6 under par and each earned $1,550. Doherty shot rounds of 70 – 66 for a two day total 136. Stiles, playing in his first Mandarin Tour event of the season, had two great rounds of 67 – 69. There was a four-way tie for 6th place with Robbie Greenwell, Ryan Corbin, Stuart Anderson and Andrew Oke at 5 under par and a two day total 136. All three players advanced through the leader board with great final day rounds of 71 – 66 (Greenwell), 69 - 68 (Corbin), 70 – 67 (Anderson), and 72 – 65 (Oke). Each earned $1,095 on the tournament. Tied for tenth place at - 4 were Michael Gonko, Andrew Parr and Steve Rodriquez ($815). Matt Hoffman took sole possession of 13th place at 3 under par with rounds of 71 – 68 ($695). James Seymour and Ryan Curran were tied for 14th place at - 2 with a two day total 140. Both shot identical rounds of 71 – 69 ($610). Curran has had two top ten finishes on the season. Brendan Barrack was in 16th place at -1 ($535). Barrack shots rounds of 72 – 69 for a two day total of 141. Simon Reyers (72 – 70) and Graham Baillargeon (71 – 71) closed out the payout with a tie for 17th place at even par ($252.50).
