Lucy Chelimo The countrys youngest diplomat ic nominee has been vetted by the House committee on Defence and Foreign Relations during which she promised to positively project the countrys image abroad. Should the House approve her appointment, 35-year-old Lucy Chelimo will become Kenyas new ambassador to Ottawa, Canada. When she appeared before the committee Wednesday, she told members that despite her young age and diplomat ic inexperience, she would ensure that she serves the country with dedication. I will check the skills levels of Kenyans living in Canada and see if they can be employed. I will meet all Kenyans who live in Canada and operate an open-door policy using social media, Chelimo told members. Canada is one of Kenyas most strategic partners and Chelimos appointment as envoy drew animated reactions from committee members. It is a great gesture to recognise the young people of this country. She has projected herself as a competent woman. This is an opportunity to go ahead and demystify leadership and break the glass ceiling for young Kenyans.
