Ludwig van Beethovens 9th symphony in d minor, for me, is the greatest piece of music ever written because you dont need to be an intellectual cuss to enjoy it. You listen to this piece and you find yourself smiling and humming to the beautiful music. Its driven by the simplicity of joy. Its so renowned and well known that little children know the tune and you just dont get the same effect with Mozart. Ode to Joy has stood the test of time and will forever be remembered and it is a reminder that humans could do good. This didnt cure any disease or made scientific advancements but this did something just as important, it nurtured the soul. Even today this nurtures the very thing that makes us human. Music will never have this beauty ever again.
