Luis Alberto is determined to become the latest successful member of the Premier League’s Spanish Armada. He is on Merseyside to tie up his £6.8million move to Liverpool and has seen how compatriots such as Mikel Arteta, Xabi Alonso, Michu and Cesc Fabregas have thrived in England. And that has inspired the Sevilla striker to be a hit in the top flight. Alberto, who will cost an initial £6m, joins a sizeable Spanish contingent at Anfield, among them Pepe Reina, Jose Enrique and Suso. The 20-year-old is aware he will have to adjust to the demands of the English game – and confident he can do so. “I’m very much looking forward to it,” he said. “I’m going to a club like Liverpool, a new culture, a new language. I have to adapt quickly but I’m really looking forward to this big step. “There are many Spaniards in England and they are doing quite well. Seeing all of them succeeding there motivates me even more.” Alberto was having a medical yesterday and also started talks over personal terms. The Reds do not envisage any problems and over the weekend hope to confirm him as Brendan Rodgers’ second signing of the summer, after Kolo Toure. Alberto came through the ranks at Sevilla and says joining Liverpool makes up for the disappointment at not being given a chance with the Andalucian side. The Spain Under-21 forward made only made seven appearances in La Liga before he was shipped out on loan at Barcelona B last season. Despite scoring 11 times for Barca’s second string, they did not take up the option to buy, allowing Rodgers to pounce. “I’ve always said Sevilla is the club where I grew up, it’s my home,” he said. “I owe a lot to Sevilla, although I’m leaving a little hurt because I haven’t had the chance to show what I can do in the Primera Division. “It seems like I was going to return to Sevilla, but the Liverpool thing came up and it’s a very important step. I’ve had to take a difficult and important decision and I hope I’ve got it right.” Liverpool remain confident of completing Iago Aspas’ protracted £7.7m move from Celta Vigo.
