Luka despised his daughter Leah for her frivolous attitude calling it simple minded and stupid, He felt that he was nourishing a viper in his house and no suitor would ever propose to her, A good wife is supposed to be practical! She is not allowed to daydream or have fantasies! He could not understand why she was very indifferent to religion and conventions, Why she was so ambivalent of the rules, Why she sat in a corner by the lamp and wrote in her journal every night instead of spending time with other women, Why she was curious to read the old Readers Digest copies that were meant to light up the jiko, Why she was attracted to esoteric things, But Leah was different from the rest of the daughters, She was a flower rather than a jewel, One could not separate her beauty from her fragility, She was so open and trusting to the uncertain, She loved the people around her but could not understand why people were so selfish, Why they would only love her for their comfort, For their own revenge! With her large expressive odd eyes, she observed everything. She never closed her eyes to the world around her, They wandered through unclear paths, Through back roads, Through thickets where wild flowers grow, She was vague, somewhat of a dreamer with her head in the clouds, The rigid conventions of the society around her suffocated and oppressed her almost beyond endurance, She built herself the most magnificent castle in the air with a concrete view of her own world, She could not let society sew her mind shut, In her castle she purposed to form her own sense of wonder, That was the only way she could anesthetize herself. - Dione.
