Luke 10:33-37 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Today we meet The Good Samaritan, the man who stops to help a stranger (his neighbor). Not only does he help him, but he has compassion for him. The act of helping does not come from a removed sense of obligation, it comes from a shift in the Samaritans heart. A heart that knows the Lord is moved by injustice and the need of others. Not only does he treat and bandage the mans wounds, but he pays for an innkeeper to look after the man until he is well...not knowing what the ultimate cost of his recovery will be! The Samaritan does not think of being robbed by the innkeeper, or whether or not the innkeeper will use the money for the good of the injured man; yet that doesnt stop him from doing what he can to help. Show others the mercy you were shown by Jesus Christ. Love your neighbor. Verse/Commentary courtesy of Verse-A-Day android app. verse-a-day/Apps
