Luke 14:25-33 | Putting God first is difficult because we seem to be wired to take care of ourselves first, of the people whom we care for first. It is part of the survival instinct. However, if we believe that we are intelligent, rational and social beings, we must believe that we can go beyond our instincts to choose what is loving, kind and compassionate. Today, we celebrate the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, someone who put God first in his life and allowed God to lead him towards true happiness. Through St. Ignatius and the Society of Jesus, thousands of people throughout the years have been brought closer to God. Today, we ask to be inspired by the life of St. Ignatius so that we too can put God first in our lives.
