Luke 14:8-11 8 “When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited? 9 The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table! 10 “Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests. 11 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 22:24-27 Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. 25 Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. 27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves. When we look at the scripture passage from Luke 14, we see that it is not good to seek honor for ourselves. It may result in humiliation. In Luke 22, we see that we should not seek a great position for ourselves. We also should not look for people to cater to us, to serve us.. Do we look for ways to serve others? That is what Jesus did. He took a lowly position. Yet a lowly position is greatly esteemed in the eyes of God; as Jesus is our example.
