Luke 19:1-7. The story of Zacchaeus is a deviation from the norm - TopicsExpress

Luke 19:1-7. The story of Zacchaeus is a deviation from the norm and one of the takeaways from his story is that we should not judge a book by its cover. The bible verse introduces Zacchaeus as a chief amongst the publican, which infers that he was a sinner. It is therefore safe to say that he was the chief amongst sinners. The verse further reveals to us that he was rich, which is an adjective rarely used to describe people in the New Testament. With those description of him the last thing you would expect of him is to be looking for Jesus, especially because he is rich. As stated in our verse. He not only desired to see him but he chose to run, in order that he can see Jesus. This action evidently shows someone who is desperate for God, especially when the text clearly states that he just wanted to know Jesus. This means he did not come for healing, breakthrough or deliverance. Why are we seeking Jesus? Is it merely for what He can do or give to us? Please note that there is nothing wrong in pursuing God for healing, success and deliverance but the question is will we still serve God even when our prayers are unanswered? Thats for me and you to Answer
