Luke 21:1-4 While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich - TopicsExpress

Luke 21:1-4 While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.” Apparently this poor widow does not agree with the phrase, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”. She gives “everything she had to live on” (NET), “all the livelihood that she had” (NKJV), “all the living that she had” (KJV). This woman shows that she is rich in Christ Jesus. She has thrown in her lot with God. Do you suppose that she has a backup plan? No, this is not the action of someone who needs another plan. The gift given here reflects the “all-in” lifestyle of the widow. She knows that whatever comes, it is the Lord who will be in authority over it, and it is the Lord who will take care of her. It also reveals of when and how we are tested in our giving to the Lord. It is one thing to give out of abundance, but quite another to give out of poverty. Should poverty find you, remember where true riches can be found. Verse/Commentary courtesy of Jesus Speaks - Daily Bible Devotional app. idelata/apps/JesusSpeaks/
