Luke 21:1–2 When he looked up he saw some wealthy people - TopicsExpress

Luke 21:1–2 When he looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. On the surface, both actions appear the same—people making contributions to the temple. As the story unfolds, however, we realize that the contributions are not equal. One gives from a surplus, the other from need. Whether it’s our time, or our money, our giving stems from a desire to share what we have with others. It has to do with justice, and justice is based on love. In Scripture, we often see God’s justice expressed through compassion for the sick, the poor, and the needy. As followers of Jesus, we honor others by treating them with the same compassion that God gives us. With whom can I share my time, talent, or treasure today? How willing am I to give from my need instead of my surplus? (Speak to God using this prayer or one of your own.) Compassionate God, you know the secrets of our hearts. Turn my offering, however small, into something useful for those whose needs you alone know. Amen
