Luke 23:27-28: And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him. 28) But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. A great company of people & women followed and lamented - mourned - for Jesus. They were so caugt up in Christs suffering and their emotions were so filled with sympathy for Jesus that they completely overlooked WHY he was suffering, and for WHOM he was suffering. Therefore, he said unto them, ...weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. Some people come to hear Gods word preached by a dynamic or eloquent preacher. They come to hear the WAY the word is preached, & get a thrill out of the eloquent or explosive manner of speech that flows from the preachers lips. They come to hear the moving & touching words of the speaker and fill their ears with a beautiful sermon. Soon, their emotions get wrapped up in the quality of speech rather than the quality of the message. They come to hear the message, but they dont take it personally, and dont realize the message is meant for them, and need to be more concerned of what sin is doing to their soul rather than being caught up in the style of the preaching. But thank God for those who truly hear the word & come to the altar compelled by a sincere desire to draw closer to God because they not only see where they are with God & where they need to be with him, but they also see how holy, pure, and spotless God is. As James 5:9 says: Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and HE SHALL LIFT YOU UP!
