Luke 5:9-11, NKJV: “For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men. So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.” When they saw what they had never seen before, they followed Him, abandoning business and family. The words the Lord spoke to them were both spirit and life. This is why they forsook all for the word of God had yielded high results than their natural experiences. What then was the essence of staying with what they knew when they had seen a higher life? Their eyes had seen the Lord, the king of Kings. They had seen His operations and it was higher than anything they had experienced previously. It was not about hard work. This is one thing that struck me as I contemplated this passage. I am a hard worker. I believe in hard work and I am at my desk early. When not working, I feel that something has been taken from me, yet the truth is that except the Lord build the house the laborers work in vain. Except the Lord watch over the city, the watchmen keep awake in vain. So many are brought up to work hard, but others are brought up in the arena of laziness. There ought to be a balance. No extreme condition is wonderful. One could toil all night and still eat the bread of sorrows. Many have been known to abandon their ministries and travel to other coasts to toil. Hard labor becomes the god they worship. They forget that God said “Without me you can do nothing.” It is only when the Lord comes upon anyone’s hard labor that it prospers and becomes meaningful. As I read this section of the scripture, the Lord spoke to me to put things in their proper perspective. So many people toil and toil but return daily with fewer dividends, but others who have not worked as hard come home laden with results because the countenance of God shined upon them. This sometimes dampens the faith of the righteous that pay tithes and render service in the house of God. Scripture however says that it is not of him that willeth or of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy. Pray therefore that the Lord comes to your business premises atop your labor and prosper it. The worship of God is not Mathematics where one adds to one to make two. If the Spirit of God does not come to the rescue, everything amounts to a waste of time. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. By grace through faith are we saved, not by works lest any man should boast. God must have an interest in a business for that business to prosper. Even while working with human strength and wisdom, God ought to have pre-eminence therein. Give a place to God, His Spirit, mercy and grace. You may finish worshipping Him while others are laboring and your business takes an unprecedented leap forward. God will always do what makes Him God. The power of revelation, grace, anointing and presence of God are far above hard work. Don’t misunderstand me: The omnipresence of God is important in the hard work. You cannot do without Him. After digging the natural, dig Jesus, dig the supernatural. You dig Jesus by believing what He says. The mystery of the person of Jesus performs the miracle. No matter what, Christ is the master of all situations. When Peter said, “Master, we have toiled all night…,” what he was saying was, “Master, we tried all possibilities and failed.” You may have gone to all hospitals and are not made better, have you sought solutions from on high? Christ is the Master of every situation. It takes direction from on high. It takes connection. The supernatural ingenuity of God must be present. Let us bring a balance between the supernatural and the physical. If you give God a chance, your problems will be solved (Bro Emma Okorie; Apostle/President LWM).
