Lumosity Our brains are naturally wired to focus on the negative, but there are steps we can take to rewire them for happiness! Repeated patterns of neural activity can change the structure of your brain, and because negative experiences -- like burning your hand on a stove -- can be dangerous, they’re more easily reinforced in your brain than positive experiences. The good news is that there are ways to overcome your brain’s natural “negativity bias.” Lingering for an extra 20-30 seconds on an everyday positive experience, like a conversation with a friend, can keep that memory in your brain’s short-term buffer long enough to be transferred into long-term storage. The more positive experiences you store, the more you can change the structure of your brain and tip the balance of your brain’s negativity bias. Is this a tactic you’d be willing to try?
