Lunch at the airport sounds about as exciting as ... well lunch at the airport! After my experience today though at Hotel Verde, Africas greenest hotel, located less than 1 km from Cape Town International runway, I have to confess my perceptions have changed! Green friendly is very often an over used word these days with many companies believing they only have to buy a couple of recycle bins to qualify them for this award! Hotel Verde though really does practice what they preach and gives a fascinating insight into how we could ALL make more of a difference to the environment and local community with just a bit more effort. From a worm farm, to bee hives, a vertical herb garden , chemical free pool, not to mention their very own thriving wetlands area complete with jogging trail and outside gym are just a few of the green aspects of this hotel. They are also proud to support local suppliers too. I had recently booked this quirky hotel blindly for overseas visitors for a night who were flying to Kruger at 06.10am - it turned out to be the perfect choice as they could relax the night before and then take advantage of the complimentary shuttle to the departure terminal the following morning - best of all, it has absolutely NOTHING in common with every other airport hotel I have experienced. On hearing their delighted feedback - I decided it was the perfect choice today for a business meeting lunch and was not disappointed!
