Lunch waves snack, and recess a. Current lunch waves at SMS are 25 minutes long, with lunch starting at 10:30 for some students. With the addition of another entire grade level of students, we are concerned that lunch waves will be come even tighter. b. Does the kitchen have enough capacity to accommodate the influx of new students? Is there adequate food prep and storage space? Is there enough staff? What might this cost the district? c. Will sixth graders be granted snack time? Will they be allowed to have water bottles? Given the earlier start to the school day, and the possibility of lunch at a very early, or very late, time in the day, is it reasonable to expect these younger students to skip snack? d. Will sixth graders be given a recess break? Many of these kids are 10 and 11 years old) still need some time for unstructured physical activity, especially as the adapt to the new, more rigorous academic schedule.
