Lunch with Khun Paron: Normally Im twice the age of everyone I meet in Thailand. But not today. Today I had lunch with one of the most impressive people I know and at 88 his is the oldest and certainly one of the wisest. His name is Khun Paron Israsena. The former chairman of Thailands largest company (Siam Cement), his career is now focused on promoting radical education reform in Thailand. His alternative school shows how digital technology and mindfulness can be the basis of a new approach to learning by doing called Constructionism which was developed by an MIT Media Lab guru named Seymore Papert. The Army general who now rules Thailand has appointed Paron to oversee the transformation of education in the next Thai government. Paron also is on 15 other nonprofit boards, and today he agreed to go on the board for my new project called Mindful Learning. Based at Chulalongkorn University, It aims to integrate Western oriented scientific mindfulness with traditional Thai Buddhism to create a new model of learning. I feel so lucky to have his support.
