Lure of the week Custom Crafted Lures These lures were custom crafted in response to experienced anglers wanting the features of proven lures combined into one design. Features such as exact diving depths to extra deep diving capabilities, durable construction, strong body vibrations, rattles and a colour selection more suited to Australian waters were included in the design criteria. Only the highest quality hooks and split rings are used and all eyelets are constructed of stainless steel. Every lure is hand detailed and air brushed with high grade acrylic paints and finished in extremely hard, two part clear protective coating. The range of colours include some standard shades and combinations that derive from the requests of experts fishing Australian waters. Proudly made in Australia, Supporting local jobs and business. Cressbrook Dam Not much has changed over the last week, Cressy is still going slow. Some signs of schooling but nothing overly exciting. Some hits around the boat ramp and buoys still. There has been several anglers catching small Bass on Blades trolling and casting all along the front around the 32ft mark, catches up to 40 or so at a time. Cooby Dam Cooby has picked up even better than last week. Several great sized Cod being landed, one in particular over the meter mark. Yellow Belly are hitting Dark Color lures, Blades with excitment. Many still hovering around the 20ft region. Blood worms and Salt Water Yabbies have also gotten great results with many Yellows averaging around the 40 to 45cm mark. With the Cod moving around this has also seemed to start the Yellows moving around as well. So work the sounder until you come across them and send down some lines. Somerset Dam Somerset has picked up a little, Good reports of Bass being caught along the Spit, Queen st, Bay13 and the Pelican Point. Up into the timbers have seen good Yellow Belly caught on a range of technics. Trolling as well as casting hard Bodies , Little Rippers, Jackalls, Balistass JUGGERNAUT 65 and other similar profile lures. Several spinners like Nories have gotten mixed results. Salt Water Yabbies and Live Shrimp have been doing very well all along the timber past Kirkleigh. Condamine River Yarramalong has given up some really great fish this last week. Started slow with the storm’s about, But once they past things stirred right up. Good Cod caught up past the pump, with good numbers of Yellows caught in the hole to the left. Again darker color lures seem to be the go and even purple with red Spinner baits or a good stock of Salt Water yabbies and Blood worms. The Carp also love the worms and Yabbies, but are a lot of fun for the kids. Be sure to dispose of these pests appropriately. Lemon Tree and further down has also been doing well. Bowenville is another great spot for the kids over the holidays, Good Yellows being caught as well as Carp. Bowenville is well worth a look if you’re looking for an easy place to take the kids out for either a camp or just a session. Coolmunda Dam Coolmunda is still going very strong. Good numbers and sizes of Yellow Belly being caught in the hole, along the dam wall as well as the old creek bed. Trolling hard bodies in purples, blacks, yellow and reds have gotten the best results. Southern Cross Timber lures as well as Kezza’s, Taylors, Little Rippers have been the favourite of many with your Jackall TN60s also being a very close second. With the storms and heat back with us, The Cod have started to move around a bit more than of late. Several good catches have been taken along the creek bed as well as the hole to the left of the boat ramp. Larger lures and Spinner Baits Like OarGee painted Bibs Plows, AC Invaders and Bassmann 4x4 have stirred up the Cod to attack. Leslie Dam This close to Toowoomba dam hasn’t seemed to of stopped. Great yellows still being caught daily with reports of Cod ranging in sizes being caught and or dropped as well. Cod alley seems to be the best spot for Yellows, schooling up around structure, boulders under the surface. The Yellows have taken some lures and yabbies during the day, but the best is the early morning and late arves from around 3 onwards. Several people have started adding ZipTailz Treble Hook Skirts to their lures and getting better results then what they feel is normal. Several Cod have been picked up off the point near the House to the left on the way to the back regions of the dam. There is a rocky little section on that point that nearly always seems to have activity schooling around it. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson Both dams are still going well. Good Yellows caught in the timbers in both dams. Masked Vibs, Hard Bodies have done the trick. Salt water yabbies as well as Live Shrimp have also hooked several quality fish. In Boondooma, Sending down Ice jigs and also slow retrieving Norrie’s have given up quality Bass along Pelican Point area. Stuart Arm has shown some good bass as well as Yellow Belly. The bay opposite dam wall has shown some results on hopping Masked Vibs. Lisa Gangs Ledge has given up some good Yellow belly, mainly on Live Shrimp and Salt water yabbies. Similar results in the open regions of Bjelke as well as some results of bass caught on plastics, Atomics etc Goondiwindi, Macintyre/Dumaresp River There has been some great reports of quality Cod and Yellows with mixed Silvers being caught all along the river. In the reserves such as “Yellow bank” “Bengalla” “Lees” “Keetah” to just to name a few. Even in the Gundy township its self has given up good size Cod (All I know of have been released back to be caught another day) The Southern Cross and Kezza’s Hard Body Timer lures have been the most popular. As well as Boomerarangs and Smaks, Bassmann, oargees etc doing great results. Mainly trolling at very slow speed, even going back over the exact same snag several times to “annoy” a fish to attack. Many people have taken to the rivers with their kayaks, minimising water noise, waves etc, sneaking up to logs, snags and casting straight in the hit zone with really good results. Salt water yabbies and Live Shrimp have given some good hits, But the lures seem to be the pick of the action. Gold Coast All the estuaries’ and canals still fishing really well. Great Flatties being caught or a mix of Soft plastics and Hard Bodies. Aus Tackle Bones Heads have given great results for many Anglers. With the Rangers also giving up some good Bream and even some Jacks have come to have a chew. Still heaps of quality Whiting getting around all the usual spots, sand banks etc mouth of Coomera River is also doing with some reports of good Jewies being taken at night. Still good Muddies being caught around the creeks around the Pin and up the Coomera river Off Shore There has been some great Dolphin fish being caught around the 24s, 36’s with still heaps of Kingies swimming around at the 50’s as well as some Macks still also hanging around. The smaller Black marlin are still hanging around, However they are moving around a fair bit so you’ll have to put in a bit of time in tracking them down. Tip of the week I want to give a small little summary of some of the tips we might have covered over the last 12 months. Most importantly SAFTEY FIRST, You should never fish alone if can be helped, water can be very unforgiving. Tell people when and were your going and when you estimate youll be home. Make sure you always have good condition life vests on board your boat, if on the bank keep a constant watch on each other. Have a sign in your boat stating the location they are stored (Legal Requirement) if you have children, Always have them wearing a life vest, they might be good swimmers, however falling from or a boat can lead to any number of reactions. The sudden cold could expel all the air from their lungs and they sink like a stone. They could hit their heads and pass out. Better to be safe than sorry. Always take hats and Sunscreen. Sunglasses are also a good option. The water reflections from the sun can do damage to skin and eyes. Have PLENTY OF FRESH WATER. Take plenty of snacks.
