Luxuriating in a slow, leisurely Saturday morning. My beloved delivered me breakfast in bed and long after eating Im still lying here, watching little birds alight on the tall, scraggly tree across the way, the one with the heavy clusters of dark purple berries that the squirrels like to eat. It really doesnt look like a tree so much as an iconoclastic bush that decided to flout convention and grow upward instead of outward --- now as tall as the red-tiled roof of the 4 story building it leans against. The sky is gray and cool air pours through the open door, along with the insistent chirps of the birds and laughter floating up from one of the neighbors units across the way...This is heaven. It is also the calm before the musical storm. This afternoon I have rehearsal for the small ensemble Im singing with tonight, then regular choir rehearsal for Choir Sunday tomorrow, then sound check for the ensemble and finally our performance at 7 p.m. tonight before the showing of Children of War, a powerful documentary about child soldiers in Uganda who are now learning not only how to survive but to thrive in their post-war lives through an organization that focuses on healing and forgiveness. Really proud to be a part of tonights fundraising event for this incredible organization --- its uplifting to realize how many beautiful and amazing things are happening on this planet, even in the most troubled places...
