“Luxury lodge with every possible convenience and warm hospitality” Planning a higher budget trip to the Bush in South Africa? – Look no further, this is a great place to stay. Tambuti Lodge is situated in the Black Rhino Game Reserve which borders the Pilanesburg National Park and has traversing rights to the Park. Tambuti is a boutique, luxury lodge comprising 5 beautifully appointed suites. We booked the Honeymoon Suite for our Wedding Anniversary through Bush Breaks South Africa (also great service), and we were not disappointed. We were contacted (by text) the night before our trip to confirm our arrival time and were phoned en-route to make sure we did not get lost; though the directions provided were good and we had an uneventful 2 ½ drive from Sandton, just North of Johannesburg. The text and the call were nice, caring touches. On arrival we were greeted by the delightful and friendly Joanna (who was deputising for Maritza), with welcome drinks and were shown around the lodge. It has an extremely well-appointed infinity pool and decked area with fire laid out for the evening (required for effect rather than warmth as over 35 degrees C during the day). The lodge’s lounges and dining rooms are cosy and well furnished. The whole effect is one of “tasteful bush luxury”. Our suite was very spacious and well laid out, including fridge, tea and filter coffee making facilities, large bathroom with his/hers sinks and both inside and outside shower. The décor was excellent and the king-sized bed was extremely comfortable. As this was the honeymoon suite it also had an outside Jacuzzi, which we used; it was great! We had an afternoon game drive with Jeandré (a most knowledgeable and friendly ranger, who was deputising for Bert). As regular visitors to the bush, we always go with limited expectations of seeing game, however we were fortunate enough to see wonderful lions, a lazy leopard resting on a rocky ledge, rhino and elephant; as well as the more common game and birds. Sundowners and snacks were served on a high mountain ridge with the Mankwe dam in the distance. Next morning the game drive was cool, but soon warmed up after the sun rose. Tip: take a warm top on the morning drive, even if the air temperature appears warm. In addition to some exciting birds, which we thoroughly enjoy spotting, we saw buffalo – so we saw all of the big-5 on this trip. Don’t bank on doing this, we were most fortunate! The food at Tambuti was excellent; very well presented and tasty; portion size was spot on too. All the staff at the Lodge was extremely pleasant. The Managers of the Lodge, Bert and Maritza, who returned on our second day, are a delightful couple who have the lodge extremely well organised; nothing is too much for their guests. We have no hesitation in awarding this resort 5 stars. sandy r Johannesburg, South Africa
