Lydia writes: Fighting in court for the right to continue to be the primary educator of my child. She is transitioning from preschool to compulsory kindergarten and although she is doing so well, even by his account, he thinks it is time to turn her over to the professionals.I just got test results from the school psychologist. My child has just officially been found to be intellectually gifted. She had several different tests as part of the evaluation. I told her dad she has special needs and he said, She seems normal to me and I think she needs to be in a regular classroom. He also said that the preschool teacher where she went 2 days a week has a college degree with a major in psychology and they tested my daughter at the school. He doesnt understand that having a major in psychology isnt the same as being a school psychologist whose full-time job is evaluating children for special educational needs. He doesnt understand that the Bracken School Readiness Assessment isnt the same as the comprehensive evaluation for giftedness that was administered by the county school psychologist. I told him that the reason she seemed normal and needed to be in a regular classroom was because he doesnt know her or observe her like I do. He eats supper with her, takes her to the playground or to her soccer games, or sets her in front of her computer to watch netflix during the time between supper and bedtime. His parenting time is mostly during overnight hours. I am the one working with her, evaluating her on a daily basis, making observations and meeting her needs for many, many more daylight hours a week than he has. I expect the re-hearing to go better. I told the GAL that it took a lot of arm-twisting to get my daughters dad to come meet with the psychologist to discuss the results of the evaluation. He only went because I told him it would make him look bad if he was asking to make unilateral decisions regarding his childs education, yet he refuses to inform himself when it comes to professional opinions as to what his childs educational needs are.
