"“Lyme disease treatment is no different than that for any other disease having a spirochete etiological agent: the earlier the treatment, the better the results. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the assessment of disease severity by medical professionals. Antibiotics seek out and destroy the bacteria, some by rupturing the organism’s cell envelope. Also, there is more variability in the treatment of late-stage Lyme disease because of different individual rates of disease progression and different patient responses to treatments. Some patients develop a treatment-resistant chronic condition, while others see their symptoms disappear months or years after oral or intravenous treatment (treatment administered directly through a vein).
