M&H NEWS: The 111-year-old Middletown trolley freight car, built - TopicsExpress

M&H NEWS: The 111-year-old Middletown trolley freight car, built for the South Brooklyn Railway by the Middletown Car Company here in Middletown, has been moved to the car barn. The move, which was made on Tuesday 19 August, was the culmination of several weeks work in oiling and loosening up frozen bearings. The car had been set on the Shop Track west of the shop building for a number of years. That track is needed for locomotive repair and service, and the car moved to the car barn for at least a cosmetic restoration. The Septa 477, also on that track is soon going to a new location as well. As the videos in the next posting will show, it was slow process. The car has very narrow, small-flanged trolley wheels. This required great care going through switches, and making sure the narrow wheel stance didnt allow the car to drop into the gauge. Thanks to the fine work and diligence of M&Hers Roland, John, JR, owner Wendell, and equipment operator Ron (author), the move was successful and the car is finally under a roof for safe-keeping.
